For example:
[Linenkugel] I feel that the red background in image A definitely helps the viewer see the negative of the concept and it adds to the feeling of warning or being alarmed. The breaking of the cigarette is an obvious but subtle way of portraying a stance against smoking. Many people often use the smoke as part of their image... but the exaggerated cigarette works here. Instead of referencing the result of smoking, it basically shows the promotion of NO SMOKING with out saying it with the typical circle with a line through it.
As for image B, I think that it makes smoking look appealing and fun! It is like a promotional advertisement for that specific brand. The loose, wiggly fun cigarette sticks in the box definitely create a fun and exciting atmosphere/feeling (want viewer to want to partake in the action). They remind me of the candy cigarettes that my kids love to eat - which I sometimes question allowing them to enjoy because of the idea behind them being symbolically so much like the real thing. (total points = 10 - because of use of complete sentences, compared and contrasted both images and also referenced what they seem to mean to me with specific note of parts of the images)
{Zack McRae] I think a is supposed to be a no smoking ad or someone who is trying to quit, I think B is supposed to look like smoking is not bad and it is fun
ReplyDelete{Krummen} Image A: I like image a cause it seems like it is some trying to be strong and over power there addiction
ReplyDeleteImage B: I think that image B is saying that smoking will eventually kill you and crush your life
(Weber) In image A the red background almost acts as a warning while the blue person in front who is breaking the cigarette and standing up to smoking looks pure. The breaking of the cigarette symbolizes that smoking is bad for you and should stand up to it.
ReplyDeleteImage B, with the cigarettes having the motion lines with the loose and crazy shapes almost makes smoking look fun and not bad for you.
I think image A conveys a message that someone is protesting smoking. It makes me feel happy that someone else feels the same way about it, because a lot of people smoke. If I supported smoking, picture A would make me feel kind of bad because I was telling people to smoke. I think picture B is a form of advertisement for smoking. It uses happy colors and squiggly cigarettes to make it seem like smoking would be fun. If I was against smoking, which I am, I would be angry that someone would make something so horrible look like a thing thats fun and for kids.
ReplyDelete[Wurster] I think that Image A gives a negative response towards smoking because it uses the color red, which is often used as the color of danger and reminds me of a red stop sign telling the viewer to stop using drugs. It also shows a stick figure breaking a cigarette, giving the connotation of someone breaking a bad habit, which is in this case, smoking.
ReplyDeleteFor Image B, I think that it gives a positive response towards smoking because it depicts smoking as a fun and creative thing, making the viewer want to join in and start smoking, too.
picture A shows someone quit smoking and that they don't need it anymore.
ReplyDeletepicture B show shows that smoking is fun and that nothing bad will happen.
[Smith] I think that image A represents the results of smoking. I think that the background color choice of red symbolizes the dangers and the negative qualities of smoking and then the body breaking the cigarette symbolizes how you can overcome the addiction of smoking and the color choice of the body (blue) shows how you can benefit from quitting.
ReplyDeleteI think that image B is kind of a bad portrayal of cigarettes showing the fun wiggly cigarettes coming out of the “lucky” box and the bright color choices the blues, whites and oranges don’t show smoking as bad but more show it as a fun, hobby that your do with you friends for enjoyment. The motion lines show kind of a positive movement when in reality smoking is horrible for your physical and emotional image.
[M.Johnson] I think that image A. is an obvious way of showing this person’s negative feel for smoking. The background has a more negative look because it is red. The person is breaking a cigarette making it obvious that it is against smoking.
ReplyDeleteI think image B. shows a positive feel for smoking because the cigarettes are bent around and look fun. There is also a hand holding the cigarettes so this shows that the person is not against smoking.
[wyder]
ReplyDeleteI think that image A shows a picture of someone quitting smoking because the end of the cigarettes is lit and he is breaking it. it is also comparing the red background as being bad because red represents anger or negativity.
I think that image B is showing a child getting candy cigarettes, and being exited . In my opinion the image is telling children that it is okay to smoke at a younger age then is legal.
If I was a person who liked smoking ,and I saw image A on a poster or something like that I would feel like I was being made fun of for a choice I have made. I would be angry ,but the image would also make me rethink what I am doing.
If I was agents smoking and I saw image B on a poster i would think that the image is promoting bad habits and tear it down.

[Drewes] I think that image A is a way of promoting people to stop smoking. It shows that they are trying to convince people to stop smoking because of how bad it is for you. Obviously someone who is against smoking created this or believes in this because it is cracking a cigarette.
ReplyDeleteI think that image B is promoting for people who do smoke. They are showing that it may be a good thing. They are showing that it is okay for all ages to smoke. It reminds me of french fries, something that kids would like or want to have and use. This picture makes it look welcoming to all ages and that people should do this.
[James Zloba] I think image A is symbolizing a good person telling other people to quit smoking because of the problems it causes. The person being colored in blue symbolizes something good because it uses a bright color. So the image is telling us not smoke and you will be better off.
ReplyDeleteAs for image B I think it symbolizes it being good to smoke. With cigarettes moving around in a fun wavy direction, and the cigarettes and the box being in somewhat of a bright color with white. I think it's a promotion for a brand. With the cigarettes and box being in a white and the brand in red to make it stick out.
[Lemme] I feel that image A is showing that smoking is bad and you should stop because the person is breaking the cigarette over their knee. The image is trying to express that smoking's bad for you, to never try it and quit if you already smoke.
ReplyDeleteI feel that image B is showing that smoking is good and everyone should do it because the cigarettes are all loose and flapping around like it's fun to smoke. So it's showing that smoking is fun and it's encouraging you to smoke.

ReplyDeleteimage one: image one is a negative smoking picture. its made to persuade people to quit or never start smoking. the cigarette breaking in half symbolises someone quitting or just not likeing the effects of a smoking habit.
image two: image to is a positive smoking picture. they made the the cigarettes crazy and fun looking for the illusion that cigarettes are a good habit. on the pack is says “lucky strike” which is a way of persuading people to get into the habit.
[Dalton] I think the red background is a good choice of color because it shows the presence of being alarmed. And it shows someone quitting smoking by snapping the cigarette. Also it doesn't just have a cigarette in a circle with a line through it.
ReplyDeleteAnd for image B it looks fun and appealing to the human eye. It seems like the candy cigarettes we like. It looks like smoking is fun and you should do it and I don't like it.
[Desiree] Image A is very simple it gets the point across, to me it show the man breaking the cigarette finally taking back his life and getting rid of the biggest problem in his life. Image B reminds me of silly string and having fun. To me it shows me that if the adults would stop smoking and go play with their kids then everything would be a lot better. Because life is about living, having fun, and laughing. Smoking cigarettes does nothing accept hurt people and break up families.
ReplyDelete[Brianna Johnson]
ReplyDeleteImage A shows someone (like my cousin Alex) snapping a cigarette which shows that someone is not smoking anymore.
Image B shows someone (like my stepdad) has not taken that life saving step to quit smoking.
[Ben Zeiser]
